I've been designing printed ephemera of one kind or another since I graduated Cooper Union in 1951, most of that time in New York, where, after working for Lippincott & Margulies for many years I had a studio with my partner Galen Harley. I've been a calligrapher for more than fifty years but do rather more drawn lettering now. In 1972 I moved to Newport, RI where I continue to practice my craft. Of course the craft has changed a bit and I have changed with it. While I still do some work with pen or prush and ink, almost all finished work is now delivered in digital form. Many of the samples you may see will have been drawn in the traditional way. I work for both business clients directly and for art directors within the field as a 'hired hand', executing finished art from the AD's roughs; either focusing sharply on the concept sketch or offering design input as requested. In either case I bring an awful lot of experience to bear on the problem at hand. Logo design explorations are offered in book form and may run from a few to as many as seventy pages as the job seems to demand.
